Ride To See Continues Here

A Rest Stop for Riders

reststopsign

A banner at one of the ride's rest stops serves as afriendly reminder that contributions to the event go to the Galena Lions Charities for distribution to worthy causes. The ride in 2008 provided scholarships for Kent County students attending Washington College, provided logistics for pre-school vision screening actiivites in Kent County and funded research at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Funds were also used to provide food to people in need through the Kent County Christmas Basket Project.

Registration Is Hard Work for Lions' Treasurers

Cyclists gather at the Galena Middle School parking lot on the morning of the scheduled bike tour for registration. This is an important step for the safe and successful operation of the rides. It also is where the Lions gather the funds being donated by participants. It also provides the event organizers with an accurate listing of all participants and which of the varied routes they are choosing to take through the County. With that information along with a requirement that riders return to the registration area provides assurances to the organizers that all riders have completed their tour.

Two Images Same Rider

Rest stops along the routes are set at convenient places to provide riders with the opportunity to take on some water, gator ade and other refreshments. Lions are there to provide any assistance they may require. One rider seems to have determined that a rest stop was there and he made a determined course correction to drop in for a brief visit.

Jim Shows The Way to Potty

Other riders such as this gentleman dropped into a rest stop with specific requests for Lion Jim and other greeters. This now paused rider appeared with a strained look. He seemed to have an urgent need. It most likely was: "Where is the Porta Potty?"

Of course the riders move on. Some travelled as far as 100 miles through Kent County countryside. But the end eventually comes and it is time to rest the wheels and well exercised bodies. These two photos tell it like it was in 2009 and hopefully entice other riders to join the Galena Lions for Ride To See in 2010 on August 14th Rain or Shine! Come join in the pleasures of a Kent County Ride to beat all rides.

The Finish after a long and enjoyable ride. Then the trip home.
